Living in Fulton county of west-central Illinois of 1849, Margaret Kerns was about 14, sister Mary was 12, Nancy was 10, and John was around 9. Nicholas and Sarah (Ward) Kerns had brought these four children with them from Fayette City, PA, perhaps eight years earlier. And there in Illinois the family increased with William Henry Kerns being born on July 9, 1843, George D. about 1846, and Simeon B. in 1849. Sometime following Simeon Kerns's birth on March 27, 1849, his family of nine members returned to Pennsylvania (this time to Sligo in Clarion county). |
