Of the historic tribes, the Pawnees were the most closely associated with Nebraska. The name is of somewhat uncertain origin, although probably itderives for "Pa-rik-i", a horn, an outgrowth of the typicla Pawnee method of dressing the scalplock. Among themselves, they were known as "Chahiksi-cha-hiks." What is the English translation of their name for themselves?
